our approach

We believe that community transformation cannot occur without the full disclosure of issues, impacts, benefits, and opportunities when it comes to local community development and management.   Projecting future outcomes while tied to indigenous knowledge is critical in making shifts and value driven-decisions.  Community consent and participation is vital as is female participation as a fundamental change agent.

tierraselva has worked with many diverse communities in the amazon region and recognizes that change does not happen overnight.  Managing valuable resources that are under threat requires ongoing engagement with key stakeholders through a variety of activities that include and are not limited to; skills development, community-based research and monitoring, capacity building and strengthening; vision planning, grass-roots activities, technology training, partnership and networking opportunities.

These can ultimately allow communities and key stakeholders to thrive, develop and manage their environment at their own pace and on their own terms.  Gender equity as through access, use and asset distribution and management plays an important role in this development.

tierraselva’s approach is thereby simple, working the ground to ensure that we fully engage with stakeholders enable participation and collaboration .  We are committed to ensuring that our work is sensitive to the spectrum of social, cultural, environmental, and economic challenges and changes faced by Amazonian communities, Indigenous groups, women, vulnerable peoples as well as rising immigrant/ refugee communities.

We work towards the creation of long-term value and positive outcomes not just for today but for the future, trying to outline our responses for future impacts (positive and negative) and future challenges.

The COVID-19 pandemic has played a large role in our work and as we continue to reach out to hard hit communities on a grass-roots level providing information remotely, creating credible awareness campaigns and joining forces with local public and private sector institutions to provide food hampers , protection materials to key community stakeholders.
